REPORTS TO:          Head of Biopharmaceutical Research

SUMMARY:             This leadership role will involve working closely with one or more R&D project teams to formulate translational blueprints, enabling execution of robust, decision-enabling clinical translation studies to inform the strategy, leading to early proof-of-concept. A good understanding of clinical trial design, regulatory processes, proof-of-concept studies, diagnostics, and biomarkers is required. The experience in developing and advancing cutting-edge therapeutics in the areas of infectious diseases or immune diseases by driving scientific innovation, excellence and rigor in partnership and collaboration with academia and CROs is preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • The individual must be viewed as a strong scientific and strategic leader who can work within a fast-paced organization to translate fundamental insights in the molecular/biological heterogeneity of disease into targeted therapeutic and biomarker hypotheses that can be tested in clinical trials.

  • Manages and mentors a team to explore and implement biomarkers of clinical relevance (pharmacodynamic, predictive, prognostic and safety) in support of ongoing clinical studies; is responsible for translational medicine related study design, protocol writing and overall study execution

  • Developing comprehensive patient segmentation strategies that may include genomic analysis, molecular and immune profiling

  • Key contributor to high-quality, regulatory documents and scientific publications

  • Builds critical scientific insight to identify project gaps and risks and developing mitigation plans

  • Effective engagement with internal key stake holders and manages the collaborations with clinical sites, external experts and CROs to deliver quality results for clinical translational research

  • Provides deep domain area expertise to discovery and development project teams and further enhances company’s scientific reputation through high impact/quality publications and presentations in internal as well as external meetings with authorities and ethics committees, and with partners, external key opinion leaders.

  • Builds critical scientific insight to identify project gaps and risks and developing mitigation plans

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degree with leadership experience in a relevant scientific field (e.g. immunology, microbiology or cell and molecular biology)

  • A minimum of 8-10 years post-PhD/MD experience in an academic and/or industry setting.

  • Excellent knowledge of drug development & discovery processes, especially on translational science and strategies (bench-to-bedside and bedside-to-bench)

  • Demonstrated application of expertise to discovery research through early clinical development in the area of infectious diseases and immune diseases

  • Must possess outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written in English and Chinese, with the ability to deliver scientific information and proposals to audiences at all levels and functions; builds and maintains network with academic institutions/translation service providers companies as needed

  • Strong leadership and project management skills with experience in developing clinical protocols and regulatory documents are required.

  • Experience in nonclinical and clinical human biological sample management and HGRAO application is highly desired.

  • Experience mentoring and/or managing direct reports is a plus.

  • The successful candidate should be able to work effectively in a matrix team environment
